Mpumalanga – A 64-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly confessing to strangling his 18-year-old female friend to death in Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga.
According to police, the suspect arrived at the Community Service Centre (CSC) at around 5pm on Monday, 20 July 2026, where he allegedly reported that he had killed the young woman by strangling her at his home.
“It is alleged that on Monday, 20 July 2026, at approximately 17:00, the suspect arrived at the Community Service Centre (CSC) and reported that he had killed his female friend at his residence by strangling her,” police said.
Police officers accompanied the suspect to his home in Hlobisa Section, Esizameleni, Wakkerstroom, where he allegedly pointed out the victim’s body.
“The police went with the suspect to his residence at Hlobisa Section, Esizameleni, Wakkerstroom. Upon their arrival, the suspect pointed out the body of the 18-year-old deceased, which was found lying naked beneath bedding in one of the rooms. Her clothes had been placed over the body to cover her face and private parts.”
Emergency Medical Services and other relevant role players were summoned to the scene, where paramedics declared the woman dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had obtained a protection order against the suspect earlier this month.
The 64-year-old was arrested at the scene and is expected to appear before the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, on a charge of murder.
