Springfield, KwaZulu-Natal – Authorities are seeking information after a wedding ring was allegedly stolen from a home in Springfield, with the owner later receiving messages demanding payment in exchange for information about its whereabouts.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the incident occurred at a residence in Springtown, Springfield, where the owner discovered that his 1/10th Krugerrand wedding ring, fitted with four stones, had gone missing on Wednesday, 15 July.
“The owner reported that his 1/10th Krugerrand wedding ring, fitted with four (4) stones, went missing from his home on Wednesday, 15/07/2026. He suspects that it was stolen by a relative,” RUSA said in a statement.
The situation took a further turn on Friday when the owner allegedly received messages from an unknown cellphone number demanding money in exchange for information on the missing ring.
“On Friday, the owner received messages from an unknown cellphone number requesting payment in exchange for information regarding the whereabouts of the ring,” the statement said.
The victim believes the sender may be responsible for the theft and is using an unregistered SIM card to avoid being identified.
“The victim suspects that the caller may be the thief and is using an unregistered SIM card,” RUSA added.
The organisation has appealed to the public for assistance in recovering the ring.
“Anyone who is approached to purchase the ring is requested to contact Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on 086 123 4333.”
The incident remains under investigation.
