Johannesburg – Senior Crime Intelligence officer Colonel Ismail Dawood has handed himself over to police after being sought in connection with assault and extortion charges.
Dawood reported to the Hillbrow Police Station in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, where he was arrested and detained. He is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, SABC News reported.

His surrender comes days after police searched his Sandhurst home on Friday as part of an investigation into the allegations.
According crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, Dawood had initially handed himself over on Monday after being informed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest on an extortion charge.
“However, there was confusion when he reported to the Sandton Police Station. He was told to report to Hillbrow this morning. His lawyers are challenging a J50 which police claim to have,” Abramjee said.
Colonel Ismail Dawood is expected to present himself to police at 8am today.

Dawood has denied that the case is related to his duties as a police officer, maintaining that it stems from a civil dispute that was resolved several years ago.
The investigation into the allegations is continuing.
