Thohoyandou – Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 40-year-old woman was discovered inside a pit toilet at her home in Ha-Lambani Mahagala, outside Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the woman’s body was found at about 11:40 on Sunday, 19 July, after family members raised the alarm.
According to police, the victim’s body was discovered inside the pit toilet, covered with a blanket.
“It is alleged that the body of the deceased woman was discovered at about 11:40 inside a pit toilet at her home, covered with a blanket,” SAPS said in a statement.
Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, where the woman’s body was retrieved from the pit toilet.
“Family members alerted the community. Police and Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned to the scene, where the body was retrieved from the pit toilet,” police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had sustained injuries to her face and head, prompting detectives to open a murder case.
Police said investigators later searched the home of a suspect believed to be linked to the killing, but the individual could not be located.
“Following the investigation, detectives proceeded to the home of a suspect, but he was not found. A case of murder has been opened. Efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect are underway,” SAPS said.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Thuso Nengovhela, on 061 446 3487, the nearest police station, the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111, or submit information through the MySAPS App.
Investigations into the murder are continuing.
