Rulani Mokwena is reportedly facing a sudden departure from his current role in Libya. The highly rated tactician only moved to Al Ittihad in March this year, but recent developments suggest his time there is up.
Mokwena joined the Libyan giants after abruptly parting ways with Algerian giants MC Alger. The move sparked many questions at the time given the volatility in the Libyan top-flight.
Unfortunately for Mokwena though, results on the field of play didn’t go according to plan.

He truly proved his elite pedigree at Mamelodi Sundowns between 2022 and 2024. There, he guided the Brazilians to back-to-back league titles, playing some of the best football South Africa has seen in a long time.
Mokwena then secured a blockbuster move to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. However, it proved a forgettable spell. The side struggled heavily for consistency, and the club dismissed him after just 35 matches.
The tactician quickly bounced back with Algerian side MC Alger. He showed his class by guiding them straight to the top of the table. Although he left before they lifted the trophy, his contribution to their triumph was undeniable.
Attention now turns to his next destination. Rumours strongly link his name with the soon-to-be-vacant Bafana Bafana head coach role. I guess we’ll all have to wait and see how this unfolds.
