Cape Town – The Madlanga Commission has heard allegations that Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson shared the contents of an assault complaint against Crime Intelligence deputy head Major General Feroz Khan before he was questioned by investigators.
According to IOL, the claims emerged during the testimony of retired Hawks Colonel Kobus Roelofse, who told the commission that the alleged conduct may have compromised the investigation by allowing Khan to prepare his version of events in advance.

Roelofse said the complaint related to an alleged assault in 2018 involving former Crime Intelligence officer Manana Leonora Phetlhe. He testified that concerns arose after former journalist Barry Bateman allegedly provided Johnson with documents relating to the case.
According to The Citizen, Roelofse said he only became aware of the matter in 2022 after a female colonel raised concerns about interactions between Johnson and Khan.
Roelofse told the commission that Johnson allegedly sent the colonel sensitive case documents, including Phetlhe’s statement, a J88 medical report and an audio recording, and instructed her to delete the email after sharing its contents with Khan.

Instead, the colonel allegedly printed the documents and handed them to Khan while keeping the original email.
Roelofse said Khan received the material a day before Hawks investigators were due to obtain his warning statement, arguing that the sequence of events may have undermined the integrity of the investigation by allowing him to align his version with the available evidence.
He further testified that Khan arrived for questioning with a prepared statement, which raised additional concerns about possible interference in the investigation.
