Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the deadline for the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, giving the commission additional time to complete its work.
The commission’s final report, which was originally due to be submitted by 31 August 2026, must now be handed to the President by Monday, 16 November 2026.
In a statement, the Presidency said the extension also sets a new deadline of Friday, 2 October 2026, for the commission to conclude the presentation of evidence.
According to the Presidency, the additional time will enable the commission to complete the matters that have emerged during the hearings and ensure that all issues contained in its terms of reference are fully investigated.
“The extension allows the Commission to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference,” the Presidency said.

It added that without the extension, significant aspects of the commission’s work would remain incomplete.
“Without an extension, the Commission will have to leave large parts of its work unfinished.”
The Presidency said President Ramaphosa remains appreciative of the work carried out by the commission and acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement agencies in acting on evidence presented during the inquiry.
“President Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by the Commission, as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up testimony emerging from Commission hearings,” the statement said.
