Cape Town – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape has launched an internal investigation after a video surfaced on social media showing a police officer in uniform allegedly making anti-foreigner statements.
In a statement, Western Cape SAPS said management had instituted a formal probe into the incident, which is believed to involve a member stationed at Vredendaal SAPS on the West Coast.
The footage, which has been widely circulated online, appears to show the officer making remarks described by SAPS as “misleading anti-foreigner sentiments” while in uniform.

Authorities said the matter is now being handled through an internal investigation led by a senior official from the West Coast district. The details surrounding the incident are still under review.
SAPS stressed that the comments do not reflect the organisation’s values or the conduct expected of its members.
“Such utterances do not represent the views of SAPS and the values the organisation espouses as a law enforcement agency,” the provincial office said.
The police service added that once the investigation is concluded, its findings will be made public.
SAPS also reminded all officers to maintain professionalism at all times, particularly when in uniform, as their conduct directly reflects on the credibility of the institution.
