Pretoria – The EFF has filed a motion in Parliament calling for National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza to be removed from office, accusing her of acting in a politically biased manner during the Phala Phala impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
EFF leader Julius Malema argues that Didiza failed to defend Parliament during the first impeachment proceedings against a sitting president, saying she placed political considerations above her constitutional duties.
He also claims she ignored legal advice recommending that Parliament oppose Ramaphosa’s interdict application to halt aspects of the impeachment process, and misled the public by suggesting the advice supported her decision.

The party has submitted the motion to Deputy Speaker Annelie Lotriet and is also pushing for oversight of the impeachment process to be transferred away from Didiza.
Didiza, however, maintains that her actions were consistent with Parliament’s constitutional obligations, with officials saying her affidavit was meant to assist the court.
Opposition parties remain divided over her handling of the matter, with some backing the EFF’s concerns while others defend her approach.
