Johannesburg – South African Police Service (SAPS) has engaged private security companies to strengthen operations ahead of the planned 30 June protests against undocumented foreign nationals.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia is meeting sector leaders, including Bidvest Protea Coin, Fidelity Services Group and G4S, to coordinate security efforts.
The state has reportedly set aside R600 million for security measures, with the South African National Defence Force also placed on standby to respond to any potential unrest.

Cachalia said authorities will allow peaceful protest but warned that violence, intimidation and damage to property will not be tolerated.
The move comes amid heightened tensions linked to planned nationwide demonstrations, with thousands of foreign nationals already returning to their home countries in recent weeks.
A further briefing is expected to provide updates on the security preparations.
