Durban – Police are investigating an armed robbery in Cottonlands, KwaZulu-Natal, after suspects forced their way into a shop by breaking through a wall during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said officers were dispatched at approximately 01:09 after reports of a robbery in progress.
On arrival, reaction officers found a hole in the wall near the entrance that had been used to gain access to the premises.
According to the complainant, who resides at the store, four armed suspects wearing masks used a pick to break through the wall before entering the shop.
“The suspects also attempted to force open the cashier’s cage but were unsuccessful and no cash was stolen,” RUSA said.
However, various items were taken from the store, although the full extent of the losses has not yet been confirmed.
The complainant further reported that the suspects fired shots outside the premises before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.
Reaction officers recovered a spent 9mm cartridge casing and two live rounds in front of the building.
No injuries were reported, and police investigations are ongoing.
