Cape Town – Actress Rorisang Mohapi-Grootboom has steadily carved out a place for herself in the South African entertainment industry, progressing from her first role in Gqeberha: The Empire to securing a leading role in Kwa Baba.
The actress, who is also captivating audiences in e.VOD’s Bogaditšong, continues to build an impressive career and is fast becoming one of the most recognisable faces on South African television.
As South Africa commemorated Youth Day on tuesday, Mohapi-Grootboom reflected on the path that led her to where she is today, the lessons she has learnt throughout her career, and why she believes opportunities should be accessible to all aspiring artists, regardless of their backgrounds.
Despite her growing success, Mohapi-Grootboom says there was no single moment that defined her career.

“I don’t think there has been just one defining moment. Every role I’ve taken on has contributed to my growth in a unique way,” she says.
“Being trusted with leading roles in major productions has been incredibly affirming. It’s shown me that years of hard work, sacrifice and perseverance have been worth it.”
For the actress, performing has always been more than simply a profession. Her passion for storytelling began at a young age and gradually developed into a calling.
“I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and performing. Growing up, I loved immersing myself in different characters and worlds. As I got older and started pursuing acting professionally, I realised that this wasn’t just something I enjoyed – it was something I genuinely felt called to do.”
Her understanding of the craft has evolved significantly since landing her first major role.
“In the beginning, I was focused on proving myself. Now, I’m more interested in understanding the humanity of the characters I play,” she explains.
“I’ve learned to trust the process, embrace vulnerability and continuously invest in learning and growing as an artist.”
Leading some of the country’s biggest productions is a responsibility she does not take lightly.
“It’s both an honour and a responsibility. Leading a production means carrying stories that resonate with audiences, and I never take that lightly. It motivates me to always give my best and to approach every role with integrity and dedication.”
With South African productions increasingly reaching international audiences, Mohapi-Grootboom believes the local entertainment industry is entering an exciting chapter.
“The more our stories reach global audiences, the more opportunities are created for South African actors, writers, directors and creatives. It proves that our stories are powerful, relevant and deserving of a place on the world stage.”
