Johannesburg – Television personality Molemo Maarohanye is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, after being arrested on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice following an alleged incident involving an Uber driver in Edenvale.
The updated court date was confirmed by Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, after it was initially expected that Maarohanye would appear in court on Monday.
“A 45-year-old suspect will appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,17 June 2026,” Sibeko said.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 07:30 on Sunday morning after an Uber driver dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale.

The driver was allegedly confronted by Maarohanye, who accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving,” Sibeko said.
Police further allege that during the confrontation, the suspect discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter,” Sibeko said.
Police arrested the suspect shortly after the incident, and investigations are continuing.
Maarohanye, a well-known media figure and television host, has previously faced serious criminal allegations, including charges of rape, assault and attempted murder in 2023.
