Cape Town – Cape Town fine-dining restaurant Amura has gained international recognition after being named one of the world’s 16 most beautiful restaurants by Forbes.
Located within the Mount Nelson Hotel, Amura by Ángel León was praised for its striking design inspired by Cape Town’s marine environment and underwater kelp forests.
Designed by acclaimed interior architect Tristan du Plessis, the restaurant features deep green tones, wood finishes and bronze accents that reflect the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
Forbes highlighted the venue’s immersive atmosphere and open kitchen, which adds a theatrical element to the dining experience.
According to Daily Investor, Amura is León’s first restaurant venture in Africa and combines Mediterranean influences from southern Spain with locally sourced seafood and ingredients inspired by the Cape coastline. Signature dishes include yellowfin tuna tartare, plankton risotto and sustainably sourced seafood tasting menus.
During an interview with The Money Show, Mount Nelson Brand Director Jonathan Lubala said the restaurant was designed to provide a multi-sensory experience that goes beyond dining, creating a welcoming space that celebrates innovation, connection and Cape Town’s ocean heritage.
The recognition places Amura alongside some of the world’s most visually impressive restaurants and further strengthens Cape Town’s growing reputation as a global culinary destination. Visitors can currently experience Amura’s winter menu from R750 per person.
