Nkomazi – Police in Mpumalanga have launched a full investigation and taken a 22-year-old man in for questioning following the circulation of a disturbing viral video showing an elderly woman being assaulted.
The South African Police Service said it noted “with much concern” the footage circulating on social media platforms, which depicts an elderly woman being brutally assaulted by a male suspect.
According to police, members from Schoemansdal SAPS immediately acted after becoming aware of the video, launching an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.
Through investigative efforts, police managed to trace and locate the elderly victim, who has since been provided with medical attention. The victim also provided further details about the assault to investigators.
Police confirmed that a 22-year-old man has been taken in for questioning in connection with the incident.
“The investigation continues, and no one will be spared should more information warrant further action,” police said.
Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid sharing graphic content and to report criminal activity directly to law enforcement channels.
