Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation soon on government’s response to migration challenges and illegal immigration, following Cabinet’s approval of a comprehensive new framework to manage migration in South Africa.
The announcement was made by Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni during a post-Cabinet briefing on Friday, where she confirmed that the president would outline the details of the plan at a later date.
“Cabinet received and approved a comprehensive approach to managing migration in South Africa, developed by the IMC Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration, and approved the National Action Plan (NAP), a country report on migration in South Africa,” Ntshavheni said.
“The president will address the nation on this matter, and the details will be provided by the president.”

The planned address comes amid growing public debate over illegal immigration and a wave of anti-illegal immigration protests in parts of Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. Some groups have called for undocumented foreign nationals to leave the country by the end of June.
Ntshavheni said government has been coordinating its response through various departments and structures, adding that Ramaphosa’s address would provide a detailed explanation of the measures being implemented.
“We have been consolidating that work, but we will leave the details of this comprehensive approach to be explained and outlined by the president,” she said.
While government has not yet announced a date for the address, Ntshavheni stressed that authorities are actively managing the situation and warned against any unlawful action linked to the protests.
