Johannesburg – The Supreme Court of Appeal is hearing an appeal by the family of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu against a Gauteng High Court ruling that allowed the Zambian government to repatriate his remains for a state funeral and burial in Zambia.
Lungu died on 5 June last year while receiving medical treatment in South Africa.

His family is challenging the earlier judgment, arguing that the court erred in siding with the Zambian government. They maintain that his widow and children should have the exclusive right to decide how and where he is buried, and that the state should not override those wishes.
