Cape Town – Nearly seven years after turning fifty, businesswoman and author Lynn Forbes has reflected on what she describes as one of the most empowering chapters of her life.
On 14 May, Lynn shared a heartfelt reflection on ageing, revealing how reaching the milestone age transformed her confidence and self-esteem after years of struggling with insecurities.
“Don’t fear the big 50,” she wrote.
Lynn described turning fifty as a period when she felt she was truly thriving. She said she had never looked better, felt better, or understood herself more deeply. For the first time, she felt confident, free and fully comfortable in her own skin.

She explained that by the age of 50, she had stopped trying to be everything for everyone else and instead embraced who she truly was. According to Lynn, there was something deeply powerful about finally settling into herself without fear or the constant need for approval from others.
While many women are taught to fear ageing, Lynn said the experience brought her strength, wisdom and a softer sense of self. She described that stage of her life as becoming a more beautiful version of herself than ever before.
Her reflections come three years after the tragic death of her son, rapper AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes. AKA was fatally shot alongside his former manager, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, outside the popular Wish Restaurant in Durban in 2023.
