Cape Town – South African motorists could see some relief at the pumps in June 2026, with mid-month data from the Central Energy Fund indicating small petrol price increases and major diesel price cuts.
Current projections show Petrol 93 could rise by 11 cents per litre and Petrol 95 by 17 cents. Diesel users, however, may benefit from decreases of between R3.65 and R4.56 per litre, while illuminating paraffin could drop by about R4.55 per litre.
The improved outlook is linked to a relatively stable rand and reduced volatility in global oil prices after recent sharp increases caused by Middle East tensions.
However, government’s temporary fuel levy relief introduced earlier this year will be partially withdrawn from June, reducing some of the expected savings. Petrol levy relief will fall to R1.50 per litre and diesel relief to R1.96 per litre.
Economists warned that renewed oil price spikes or rand weakness could still reverse the projected gains before official fuel prices are announced at the end of May.
