Cape Town – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has appointed Glynnis Breytenbach as its new Chief Whip in the National Assembly.
According to the party, Breytenbach brings extensive legal and parliamentary experience and will play a key role in managing the DA’s work in Parliament as well as its engagement within the Government of National Unity (GNU).
DA Parliamentary Leader George Michalakis confirmed the appointment, highlighting her background as a former senior state prosecutor and her 12 years in Parliament.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Adv Glynnis Breytenbach as the Democratic Alliance’s new Chief Whip in the National Assembly,” he said.
He added that she will serve as custodian of Parliament’s rules and procedures for the DA and will also assist in negotiations within the GNU alongside him.
Michalakis noted that Breytenbach has served throughout her parliamentary career as the DA’s spokesperson on justice, describing her appointment as a continued focus on safety and security within the party’s parliamentary agenda.
He further said she will work with Deputy Chief Whip Bax Nodada to oversee DA representatives in the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces.
The DA said it is confident that Breytenbach’s experience will strengthen its parliamentary leadership.
