Johannesburg – Political fixer Oupa Brown Mogotsi was reportedly arrested on Friday for allegedly staging an assassination attempt against himself in Vosloorus, Gauteng.
Police said a multidisciplinary team arrested a suspect for defeating the ends of justice after investigations into a November 2025 shooting incident in which Mogotsi claimed unknown gunmen opened fire on his red Chevrolet.
According to The Citizen, At the time, police recovered about 11 bullet casings, but suspicions emerged that the attack may have been staged.
Witnesses told The Sowetan they saw a man driving the Chevrolet stop near the N3, exit the vehicle with a firearm, and shoot at the car himself, the report said.
Police also linked the firearm used in the incident to other serious violent crimes, including murder and attempted murder.
“A SAPS multidisciplinary team has this evening executed a J50 warrant of arrest and arrested a suspect for defeating the ends of justice,” police said in a statement.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the firearm used in the commission of the crime has also been linked to other serious and violent crimes, including cases of murder and attempted murder.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 18 May 2026.
The reported arrest came shortly after Mogotsi appeared before the Madlanga Commission, where he endured a tense hearing.
His attempt to have evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson recused was dismissed by commission chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
Mogotsi initially refused to answer questions, saying: “I’m not going to incriminate myself,” before later agreeing to continue after consulting his legal team.
