Johannesburg – Two senior South African police generals and a businessman are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday following their arrest in connection with an alleged illegal precious metals operation.
According to information shared by crime activist and broadcaster Yusuf Abramjee, Major-Generals Feroz Khan and Ebrahim Kadwa, together with security company owner Tariq Downes, were arrested early on Sunday.
The South African Police Service confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects were apprehended by the Gauteng Counter Intelligence Operations unit following an intensive investigation into allegations involving unlawful dealing in precious metals, corruption and related offences.

Police said investigators had linked the suspects to illicit precious metals transactions and other criminal activities connected to the illegal trade in valuable minerals in South Africa.
According to SAPS, the arrests were executed after members of the specialised unit obtained and carried out a J50 warrant of arrest.
Sources close to the investigation reportedly indicated that multiple electronic devices were seized from Khan during the operation.

The suspects are expected to face charges including unlawful dealing in precious metals, corruption, defeating the ends of justice and contraventions of legislation regulating the trade of precious metals in South Africa.
“SAPS says the arrests form part of broader efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in the illicit trade of precious minerals and corruption within law enforcement structures,” Abramjee reported.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the senior ranks of the police officials implicated in the investigation.
Police investigations are continuing.
