Durban – Four people have been rescued following a building collapse in central Durban, with emergency teams continuing operations at the scene, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) confirmed on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Union Lane on Saturday, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Centre to dispatch disaster management teams to the area.
“To date, four people have been successfully extricated and have received medical attention. The department wishes all who are affected a speedy recovery,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities said the rescued individuals were treated after being pulled from the rubble, although the extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The department said emergency response efforts remain under way and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Members of the public have also been urged to avoid the affected area while rescue and recovery operations continue.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been established.
