Durban – National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams, will remain in custody until 13 May after appearing in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on charges linked to the murder investigation of former ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.
He was arrested in Cape Town on Tuesday and later transported to Durban.
He faces two counts of defeating the ends of justice and three counts of fraud.
The state alleges Adams interfered in the Magaqa murder investigation and visited convicted killer Sibusiso Ncengwa while he was detained at Westville Correctional Facility during his trial.

Prosecutors opposed bail, citing Adams’ alleged “defiant behaviour” and concerns over interference with witnesses.
“There is a serious allegation of interference with state witnesses,” the prosecutor told the court, adding: “You cannot, in our criminal justice system, ignore that fact.”
Adams’ lawyer, Bruce Hendricks, argued that his client had repeatedly tried to confirm whether a warrant had been issued for his arrest and said it was not in the interests of justice to keep him detained as he has minor children.

The defence also submitted proof of residence and offered strict bail conditions, including regular reporting to police. A bail amount of R5,000 was proposed.
The magistrate ruled that Adams would remain detained at a secret location until his formal bail application resumes next week, saying further evidence still needed to be investigated.
