Johannesburg – Police have recovered 11 vehicles and arrested two suspects during a series of intelligence-driven operations conducted across the Johannesburg District between 13 and 17 April 2026.
According to the South African Police Service, some of the vehicles were recovered through targeted intelligence operations, while others were found by the Johannesburg Flying Squad during routine patrols.
On 17 April, police acted on intelligence in Booysens about a suspect in possession of a suspicious vehicle in Turfontein. Officers found a 34-year-old man stripping the dashboard of a Hyundai i10 at a residence.
Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle had been hijacked in Rabie Ridge, and the suspect was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Braamfischer, Dobsonville, after he was found in possession of a Hyundai H100 bakkie reported stolen in Booysens.
Police also recovered several vehicles across the district, including a Toyota Yaris found abandoned at Madala Hostel in Alexandra. Authorities confirmed the vehicle had been hijacked in the same area.
On 15 April, officers responded to a tip-off about a vehicle being stripped in Diepkloof Zone 1, where they recovered a Toyota Hilux double cab that had been dismantled. The vehicle was reported stolen in Midrand, and no arrests have yet been made.
In Protea Glen, a Toyota RunX was recovered after being found abandoned on a street. Investigations showed it had been stolen in Mogwase, near Rustenburg.
Acting Johannesburg District Commissioner Egen Moodley praised officers for their coordinated response and collaboration with the community.
“We will continue to intensify operations to ensure that those involved in illegal activities are brought to book,” said Moodley.
He urged residents to report criminal activity through their nearest police stations, the Crime Stop hotline, or the MySAPSApp, which allows tip-offs to be submitted anonymously.
