Cape Town – The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has reportedly rejected calls to impeach President Cyril Ramaphosa following the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report into the Phala Phala theft, insisting he is “going nowhere”.
According to The Citizen, PA spokesperson Steve Motale said the party would not support any impeachment motion, arguing it is a serious constitutional process that should not be used for political agendas.
The party maintains that the IPID report does not directly implicate Ramaphosa.
“South Africa cannot afford to be dragged into cycles of manufactured outrage and political theatre. There is a difference between accountability and opportunism, and we are not interested in confusing the two,” the report quoted Motale as saying.
PA leader Gayton McKenzie echoed this stance, warning against political “games” and stressing the need for stability, saying the country should focus on service delivery and jobs rather than what he called manufactured outrage.

Yet, PPU Head Major General Wally Rhoode remains in his position without having been held accountable for clear wrongdoing.” – @ME_Beaumonthttps://t.co/FUCguYBW7g

“We are not going to remove a sitting President based on noise and political games. South Africa needs stability,” said McKenzie as per the report.
The IPID report found that the head of Ramaphosa’s security detail, Major General Wally Rhoode, concealed the theft of about $580,000 and failed to follow proper police procedures, including promptly registering a case.
The matter only came to light two years later after it was exposed by former State Security Agency director-general Arthur Fraser. IPID has recommended disciplinary action against Rhoode and another officer.
Speaking during a visit to Kusile Power Station on Friday last week, Ramaphosa distanced himself from the alleged misconduct.
