Cape Town – South Africa is on the verge of reaching a major energy milestone of 365 consecutive days without electricity supply interruptions, marking one of the longest periods of grid stability in years.
President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday, 10 April 2026, visited the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga, where he was briefed on the country’s electricity recovery progress and the improving performance of the national grid.
The visit brought together senior leadership from Eskom SOC Ltd, including Board Chairperson Mteto Nyati, as well as Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who outlined operational gains that have contributed to the sustained period of stability.
Eskom said South Africa is approaching 365 consecutive days of uninterrupted electricity supply, a significant turnaround from previous years marked by frequent load shedding and generation constraints.

The utility attributed the improvement to ongoing recovery efforts, improved plant performance, and tighter operational discipline across its generation fleet. It added that this period represents one of the most sustained improvements in more than five years.
During the visit, Ramaphosa received a detailed operational briefing from Eskom executives and technical teams on the state of generation capacity and measures being taken to protect the gains achieved.
The President also acknowledged the contribution of Eskom employees in stabilising the system and improving energy availability, describing the progress as an important step toward long-term energy security.
Eskom said the milestone of 365 consecutive days, if maintained, would represent a symbolic and practical shift in the country’s electricity outlook, reflecting sustained recovery efforts across the power system.
Kusile Power Station, whose name means “the dawn has come,” was highlighted as a key site in the broader recovery narrative, symbolising efforts to restore stability to South Africa’s electricity supply.
