KwaZulu-Natal – A five-year-old girl is in critical condition after being electrocuted outside her home in Hilltop, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday, according to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
In a statement, RUSA said that emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) dispatched multiple units to locate the scene without delay. Upon arrival, the child was transported to a nearby gravel road, accessible by emergency vehicles.”
According to eyewitness accounts, the child was at home with her 12-year-old sibling at the time of the incident.
“It is alleged that the five-year-old and her twelve year old sibling were alone at home. The younger child, carrying a glass of water, accidentally tripped over an illegal electrical connection and fell onto exposed wires,” RUSA said.
Neighbours reportedly discovered the child unconscious and alerted emergency services.
Paramedics stabilised the child at the scene before rushing her to hospital.
“Emergency Responders stabilised the child on-site before expediting her to a local hospital for further treatment.”
Authorities have not yet provided further updates on her condition.
