RUSA officers confirmed that the driver was unresponsive but still alive when they assessed him at the scene. Firefighters were subsequently called in and used specialised hydraulic rescue equipment, commonly known as the “Jaws of Life,” to extricate the victim from the vehicle.
Once freed, the teenager was stabilised on site before being transported to hospital by a private ambulance service. The extent of his injuries had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear and are expected to be investigated.
