Limpopo – One of the conjoined twin boys who underwent a complex separation surgery in Limpopo has died due to multiple organ failure following post-operative complications.
Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba confirmed the death, explaining that the baby developed a severe infection after the procedure, which led to septicaemia and organ failure despite the medical team’s efforts.

“The baby tried to recover, we thought we were out of danger, because after two and a half weeks, we thought we were out of danger, and we were confident. Unfortunately, the past two days, the condition just changed, last night the condition changed to the worst,” said Ramathuba, aording to EWN.
The twins, born joined at the abdomen and sharing vital organs, were successfully separated in an eight-hour operation led by Professor Nyaweleni Tshifularo at Mankweng Hospital.
While one twin has died, the surviving baby is recovering well, breathing independently and showing positive signs. Authorities have urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and continue supporting them during this difficult time.
