Cape Town – The South African government has dismissed a viral screenshot circulating on social media that appeared to show President Cyril Ramaphosa responding aggressively to US President Donald Trump, calling it “fake news” and AI-generated.
The image falsely claimed Trump posted a negative comment about South Africa, which Ramaphosa allegedly replied to in offensive language.
Officials confirmed the exchange never happened.

The post sparked online amusement but also comes amid ongoing tensions, with Trump having previously made controversial claims about South Africa, including allegations of “racial persecution” and violence against white farmers — claims Ramaphosa has strongly rejected as misinformation and evidence of Trump being “uninformed”.
