Johannesburg – The South African Police Service (SAPS), in collaboration with Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), has arrested five South African women at OR Tambo International Airport for allegedly attempting to traffic drugs valued at more than R5 million.
The arrests were made on Saturday, 28 March 2026, during a joint operation targeting drug trafficking at the country’s busiest airport.
According to SAPS, the suspects were en route to China via Dubai when they were intercepted.
“A preliminary report suggests that the suspects were en route to China via Dubai,” SAPS said in a statement.
Police said a search of the suspects uncovered drugs concealed in multiple ways.
“A search led to the discovery of drugs concealed inside their sneakers, underwear, and private parts,” the statement added.
The five suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
“The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 on charges related to drug trafficking,” SAPS confirmed.
Authorities said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
