Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal – A branded work bakkie was stolen in the early hours of Friday morning in Chatsworth, with CCTV footage showing another vehicle trailing it during the theft, according to the Reaction Unit South Africa.
The incident occurred on 27 March 2026 at approximately 03:00 in Silvermount Circle.
“A GWM Steed 5 2013 model long wheel base bakkie with registration CD23YGZN was stolen from Silvermount Circle in Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 27 March 2026 at approximately 03:00,” RUSA reported.
The vehicle, which belongs to a business, was clearly identifiable.
“The vehicle is branded with ‘Drainmed Jetting’ signage and is fitted with chrome side bars, deep dish aluminium rims, bar lights and a tow bar,” the statement said.
RUSA added that the bakkie had limited fuel and contained basic tools at the time of the theft.
“It had less than half a tank of fuel at the time of the theft. Items inside the vehicle included a jack and a radio,” the organisation said.
According to information received, the vehicle was driven away while occupants of a second car appeared to follow it.
“According to information received, the vehicle was started and driven away during the early hours of the morning. CCTV footage later confirmed that the vehicle had been taken from outside the yard,” RUSA said.
The organisation further stated that “occupants of a white Toyota Corolla can be seen following behind the bakkie during the theft.”
Members of the public with information have been urged to assist investigations.
