Johannesburg – A 34-year-old Gauteng man has been arrested for allegedly drugging and sexually abusing his wife over several years, before distributing explicit material online without her consent, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.
The suspect was apprehended in Boksburg on Thursday, 26 March 2026, following an intelligence-driven investigation involving local and international law enforcement agencies.
According to SAPS, the case came to light through international cooperation.
“Through close collaboration, the national Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) team received an intelligence report from the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the British High Commission, Cape Town regarding a South African target who is believed to be involved in drug facilitated sexual assault,” police said.
Authorities allege the suspect carried out the abuse over an extended period.
“The 34-year-old husband drugged, raped his wife, and distributed pornographic material of him performing sexual acts on her without consent on an exclusive social media channel over a period of five years,” SAPS said.
“The victim appeared sedated and in a state of unconsciousness when these serious sexual offences were committed.”
Police said specialised investigative work led to the arrest.
“Innovative investigative techniques and analysis led a multi-disciplinary team to the location of the suspect who was arrested in Boksburg on Thursday, 26 March 2026,” the statement read.
The operation involved multiple agencies, including international partners.
“The team comprised investigators from the national and provincial SECI team in Gauteng, supported by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), US Embassy,” SAPS said.
During the arrest, authorities uncovered digital evidence linked to the alleged crimes.
“Forensic experts at the scene uncovered multiple images and videos relating to drug facilitated sexual assault as well as child sexual abuse material which were found on the suspect’s electronic devices,” police said.
Further investigations on the same day led to the arrest of a second suspect in Germiston.
“On the same day, further investigation led the team to another suspect in Germiston with a similar modus operandi; the two suspects are known to each other,” SAPS added.
The second suspect, aged 48, was found in possession of illegal firearms.
“Police also seized the 48-year-old suspect’s electronic devices and two unlicensed firearms found in his possession,” police said.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on 27 March 2026 on multiple charges, including sexual assault, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, and contravention of the Cyber Crimes Act.
“Investigations and forensic analysis of the suspects’ devices remain ongoing,” SAPS said.
