Johannesburg – A 35-year-old attorney, Chinette Gallichan, was shot dead outside the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices in Johannesburg’s CBD on Monday morning, reports say.
The shooting occurred shortly after 9:00am when an unidentified assailant approached Gallichan as she exited her vehicle and opened fire at close range before fleeing in a waiting car.
Gallichan, who worked in the labour litigation department at Sibanye-Stillwater, had reportedly arrived for a labour dispute case involving retrenched workers.

Early indications suggest the attack was targeted, as no belongings were taken.
Colleagues described her as a respected figure in legal circles. She held an LLB from University of South Africa and a postgraduate diploma in labour law from University of Johannesburg.
Police have opened a murder case and investigations are ongoing.
