Pretoria – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the official payment dates for April 2026 grants after weeks of uncertainty.
Earlier delays, caused by “administrative processes” and awaiting approval from National Treasury, had left millions of beneficiaries concerned.
The schedule was approved by National Treasury on Friday, 20 March 2026, and is structured to ensure smooth access to funds.
Payments will be staggered over three days to manage demand efficiently:
- Older Persons Grant – Thursday, 2 April 2026
- Disability and War Veterans Grants – Tuesday, 7 April 2026
- Children’s and Foster Child Grants – Wednesday, 8 April 2026

SASSA administers more than 19 million grant payments, including old-age, disability, war veterans, care dependency, child support, foster child, and grant-in-aid programs.
Payment dates are adjusted to avoid weekends, public holidays, and Mondays, which explains why some grants fall later in the first week of April.
Beneficiaries will also receive annual increases of 3.4%, translating to:
- Old Age Grant (60–74) & Disability Grant – R2 400
- War Veterans Grant – R2 420
- Care Dependency Grant – R2 400
- Child Support Grant – R580
- Foster Care Grant – R1 290
While payments are now confirmed, some beneficiaries remain disappointed with the modest increases.
SASSA urged recipients to visit their local offices if grants are not received on the scheduled dates, reaffirming its commitment to timely payments.
