Kimberley – A woman has been arrested in Upington after police intercepted her with a large quantity of dagga valued at an estimated R670,500, following an intelligence-driven operation.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane, members of the Upington Crime Prevention Unit acted on information about the suspect’s movements on Friday, 20 March 2026.
“Members of the Upington Crime Prevention Unit intercepted a female suspect allegedly in possession of drugs at a fuel station in Upington,” Shemane said.
He added that the operation was based on intelligence gathered by police.
“The members acted on intelligence-driven information regarding the movement of the suspect.”
Police proceeded to the identified location, where they spotted a woman matching the description they had received.
“Upon arrival at the identified location, they spotted a woman matching the description provided,” Shemane said.
The suspect was found carrying three bags, which were searched on site.
“A search of the luggage revealed a large quantity of dagga, with an estimated street value of R670 500,” he said.
The woman was immediately arrested and is expected to face charges related to dealing in dagga.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested for dealing in dagga,” Shemane confirmed.
Meanwhile, ZF Mgcawu District Commissioner Major General Monica Sebili praised the officers involved in the operation.
She commended “the members for their swift response, which led to the successful arrest and confiscation of the drugs,” and highlighted the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
Sebili also expressed appreciation for residents who continue to provide information to police, noting that such support plays a key role in removing drugs from communities.
