Cape Town – National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has stood by his testimony that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu did not inform him about disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Fannie Masemola reiterated on Tuesday that Mchunu, currently on special leave, did not consult or inform him about the decision to disband the PKTT, which Mchunu disbanded on the last day of 2024.
Masemola has consistently maintained this position since his initial testimony before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption in October 2024.

He emphasised that despite several opportunities — including attending funerals together on 21 December in Hammersdale, spending 27–28 December with Mchunu in Nongoma, and a virtual Christmas Eve meeting to discuss the Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala case and the Medicare24 police contract — Mchunu never mentioned the imminent disbandment of the PKTT.
Masemola appeared again before the committee to reinforce his earlier testimony and respond to further evidence on matters of national security.
