Cape Town – Fuel prices in South Africa are expected to rise from early March, with the Central Energy Fund forecasting increases of about 21 cents per litre for 95 unleaded petrol, 18 cents for 93 unleaded, and between 62 and 65 cents for diesel.
The final price adjustments will be announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, with the hikes expected to take effect on 4 March.
Although international fuel prices rose during February, a stronger South Africa rand helped limit the size of the increases.
Further fuel cost pressure is expected in April due to rising global oil prices linked to Middle East tensions and planned tax adjustments announced in the 2026 budget by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.
The changes will raise the General Fuel Levy, carbon fuel levy and Road Accident Fund levy, adding about 21 cents per litre in total.
