Cape Town – Power has been fully restored at Cape Town International Airport after a fire broke out just after 11am on Tuesday in the Northern Service Yard landside area.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and all passengers and staff were safely evacuated as a precaution.
The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said on Wednesday that technical teams are still stabilising network and IT systems, and some operational constraints remain despite the restoration of electricity.
International departures have resumed, but passengers may face delays due to earlier disruptions.
“The CTIA technical teams are working on stabilising the network and IT systems. While power has been restored, some operational systems remain constrained as recovery efforts continue. Airlines are currently conducting manual check-in at their counters while systems are being fully restored. As a result, passengers may experience longer processing times and delays this evening and into tomorrow morning,” said Acsa.

Travellers are advised to arrive earlier, check flight statuses with their airlines, and use the Acsa App for updates. Authorities thanked passengers, airlines, and emergency teams for their cooperation during the incident.
“Passengers are advised to allow additional time for check-in and to follow instructions provided by their respective airlines. For the latest flight-specific information, please check the ACSA Mobile App or contact your airline directly before travelling to the airport. We thank our passengers and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation,” Acsa said.
