Durban – Capitec Bank has expressed deep sadness after a shocking incident in which a grieving family allegedly brought the body of a deceased relative into its Stanger branch in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, during a dispute over a funeral insurance claim.
The body, reportedly transported in a funeral parlour vehicle and covered in a plastic sheet, was carried into the branch and placed on the floor, causing panic among clients and staff.
Capitec Bank branch in Stanger closed down when a family came to claim for life insurance and the bank required proof of death, so the family brought the corpse into the bank. The branch was temporarily closed as security cordoned off the scene and police were called, reports said.
Capitec apologised to clients and staff who witnessed the incident and extended condolences to the family, stating: “We are deeply saddened by the distressing incident that occurred at our Stanger branch in KwaDukuza. We extend our sincere condolences to the family during what is clearly an incredibly difficult and emotional time.”
The bank emphasised that claims are processed swiftly once all required documents are received and confirmed it is cooperating with authorities.
