Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Sihle Lonzi made a bold move during the State of the Nation Address debate on Wednesday, by handing President Cyril Ramaphosa a box of CVs, representing the millions of unemployed youth in South Africa.
Lonzi announced that the EFF will mobilise young people to deliver CVs daily to government offices — including the Union Buildings, Parliament, and Minister Gwede Mantashe’s office — until the government takes action on the youth unemployment crisis.
With a stack of CVs in his right hand, Lonzi explained that they represented unemployed young people, including graduates struggling to secure jobs.
“It is a lie that they are lazy. It is a lie that they sit at home and bask under the sun like Honourable Gwede Mantashe suggests,” he said.

Last month, Mantashe came under fire for remarks on youth unemployment, claiming that young people were “too lazy to search for work and expected the government to provide for them.”
Lonzi added: “Mr President, these are just a few CVs which are covering tasks in our communities, but there are many other millions of CVs of young people who are unemployed in this country. And from now onwards, we are going to rally the youth of South Africa to physically deliver CVs at the doors of the Union Buildings, at the doors of Parliament, and in the office of Honorable Gwede Mantashe. We are going to publicly share your official email addresses, not the fake ones you put on Google, so that the youth can send you all our CVs each and every day until you take the struggle of joblessness seriously in South Africa.”
