Johannesburg – ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has confirmed that Helen Zille running as the DA’s mayoral candidate in Johannesburg won’t affect his bid to return as mayor.
Mashaba is among five ActionSA members interviewed for the party’s mayoral candidacy, but analysts say he is the clear frontrunner due to his status as the party’s founder and former Johannesburg mayor.
Speaking to Radio 702, Mashaba said that Zille’s bid for Johannesburg mayor does not intimidate him.
“I’m dealing with someone who when she looks at me doesn’t see a 66-year-old man, but sees a boy, which makes it easy for me because I was never a boy.”

Meanwhile, the ANC and EFF have yet to announce their candidates, and Kenny Kunene will lead the Patriotic Alliance’s campaign.
