According to SABC News, forecaster Edward Engelbrecht said the storms, caused by a cold front, could lead to flooding of vulnerable roads and low-lying areas.
“We have issued a level four warning for the severe thunderstorms over most parts of KZN except the northeastern part. And that’s going to be so, that means level four, it’s low likelihood for significant impacts. And that may lead to strong, damaging winds, excessive lightning, and heavy downpours, leading to flooding of susceptible roads. And that’s going to be mostly due to a cold front that’s moved south past the country. And then with that, we also expect scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, mostly for the afternoon,” the report quoted Engelbrecht as saying.
Authorities warned that the severe weather may damage infrastructure, property, vehicles, livestock and livelihoods.
