Waterloo – A man was shot during an attempted hijacking on Jackel Road in Waterloo in the early hours of Sunday morning, police and eyewitnesses report.
Neighbours said the victim had just returned home from work and was preparing to park his silver-grey VW Polo GTI when two armed suspects approached him. A struggle ensued when the man resisted the hijacking attempt, during which one of the suspects fired a gun.
“The victim sustained two gunshot wounds, one to the knee and another to the lower abdomen,” said a spokesperson from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), who attended the scene shortly after the incident.

“The suspects then fled before emergency services could arrive.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the victim had already been privately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment prior to RUSA’s arrival at approximately 01:49.
Reaction officers conducted a search of the scene and recovered evidence including two live rounds of ammunition and two spent 9mm cartridges.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the suspects to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
