Johannesburg – EFF leader Julius Malema says his position at the helm of the party remains secure, even if he is removed from Parliament due to his firearms-related conviction.
Speaking at the closing of the EFF’s second National Plenum in Boksburg on Sunday, Malema said efforts to sideline him would not weaken the party, insisting his leadership and activism are not dependent on holding a parliamentary seat.
His comments follow his October conviction in the East London Magistrate’s Court for unlawful possession and discharge of a firearm at a 2018 rally, a sentence he says is suspended pending appeal.

Malema stressed that he would continue serving the party and its supporters outside Parliament if necessary, declaring that he would “remain in the struggle” regardless of the legal outcome, as the appeal process continues.
“I was never born to be a member of Parliament. I joined the struggle to liberate the people of South Africa, not to be a member of Parliament. They can take their Parliament. I will remain in the struggle,” Malema said.
