Johannesburg – A boarding master at Nemane Adventist High School in Zimbabwe has gone viral after urging students not to see Johannesburg as the automatic next step after completing Form 4 exams.
Addressing predominantly Ndebele students, he warned that young people who migrate without education risk joblessness, exploitation, and deportation, challenging the widespread perception that Johannesburg is a land of opportunity.
“Another thing that you have learnt is that when you leave school you want to go where? … to Johannesburg,” he said in the video, which has since been viewed and shared by thousands.
He encouraged students to focus on education and personal development rather than chasing the city’s allure.
The message comes amid ongoing migration issues, including the interception of over 20 minors near the Beitbridge border recently.
The warning also reflects broader concerns about xenophobia and violence against Zimbabwean migrants in South Africa.
