Cape Town – WeBuyCars has strengthened its national expansion with the opening of two flagship vehicle supermarkets in Lansdowne, Cape Town, and Montana, Pretoria North, underscoring its long-term growth strategy despite short-term pressures from the rise of affordable Chinese vehicles.
While these cheaper new cars have drawn some buyers away from the used-car market, the company expects this challenge to become a future advantage as these vehicles enter the second-hand market and broaden its inventory, Daily Investor reported.
The new supermarkets form part of a wider network of 18 vehicle supermarkets and more than 100 buying pods nationwide, ensuring a presence in every province and major city.
Beyond expanding its footprint, the Lansdowne and Montana facilities are designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce storage and selling costs, while serving as flagship models for the rest of the network.
Construction of the Lansdowne supermarket began in January 2025, resulting in the largest vehicle supermarket of its kind in the Western Cape. The 5.23-hectare site features a two-level indoor warehouse with capacity for around 1,200 vehicles.
According to Techcentral, in Pretoria North, the Montana supermarket, which officially opened on 26 November 2025, includes a 15,150m² indoor warehouse accommodating about 600 vehicles, with additional outdoor retail space for a further 600.
Both developments incorporate sustainability measures such as water-recycling wash bays, boreholes, rainwater harvesting and solar power installations, reducing reliance on municipal services and the national grid.
For customers, the scale and layout of the facilities offer greater convenience, faster processing and access to a wide range of vehicles in modern, purpose-built environments.
Importantly, the two flagship supermarkets have also created 240 new jobs across operations, sales, logistics and support services, reinforcing WeBuyCars’ commitment to economic opportunity and community development as it continues to grow its presence across South Africa.
