Durban – A resident of Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, was left shocked after a thief made off with a pot of chicken curry and a gas stove from his yard in a brazen daylight theft.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its officers responded to a report of theft on Havenwood Road on Friday.
According to the homeowner, the incident happened within minutes.
“He informed the Reaction Officers that he had been cooking a pot of chicken curry on a gas stove in his yard,” RUSA said in a statement. “He stepped inside briefly to turn on the radio and, within just a few minutes of returning outside, discovered that both the pot of curry and the gas stove had been stolen.”
The victim told officers that he did not see anyone enter his yard and was unable to identify a suspect.
“The homeowner did not witness anyone entering the yard and could not confirm who was responsible for the mid-meal theft,” RUSA said.
No injuries were reported, and it was unclear whether a case had been opened with the South African Police Service at the time of reporting.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
