Durban – A celebration marking a young woman’s successful completion of matric ended in violence after her boyfriend was allegedly robbed and assaulted at gunpoint at his home in Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday night.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the incident occurred while the couple were celebrating the release of the matric results when two men arrived at the property, one of them armed with a firearm.
“A celebration marking a young woman’s successful completion of matric was violently disrupted when her boyfriend was robbed & assaulted at gunpoint at his home in Trenance Park – KZN yesterday afternoon (Saturday),” RUSA said in a statement.
RUSA members were dispatched to the scene late on Saturday night.
“Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene at approximately 23:51,” the organisation said.
The victim told Reaction Officers that the suspects confronted him during the celebration and forcibly took alcohol from the premises.
“The victim informed Reaction Officers that the suspects confronted him, forcefully confiscated his alcohol, and assaulted him by striking him with the firearm on the shoulder,” RUSA said.
“The suspects are known to the victim and allegedly expressed anger over not being invited to the celebration.”
No arrests had been confirmed at the time of publication.
Police investigations into the armed robbery and assault are expected to follow.
